Our Inspiration
Kyle, a Huntington Beach local, was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer in Fall of 2015 at the age of 19. He was going to school, hanging out with friends, and enjoying the everyday beach lifestyle. Then one day he woke up with neck pain, the pain got worse, he developed headaches, and eventually, he could not stand up without falling over.
Six weeks, six different doctors, and no answers led him to the Emergency Room where they immediately performed a CAT scan. After the scan the doctor gave him the news that would change his life forever.
A golf ball sized tumor was found in the back of his brain. Kyle underwent surgery a few days later and was diagnosed with cancer. 30 radiation treatments, 1.5 years of chemotherapy, and 150 nights in the hospital, he missed the fresh ocean breeze and the sand between his toes.
During this difficult time, Kyle’s friends came together to give him hats and t-shirts that connected him to the places he loved. This helped him to never lose sight of the future and to make sure he never felt alone. Having a vision through it all, he found strength in knowing that he would soon be back on the beach with his friends and family. This has been our inspiration in creating Local Braddah, a surf lifestyle brand to support, empower, and advocate for those impacted by cancer.
Kyle completed his last round of chemotherapy in December of 2016. He may have lost 70 pounds, but he gained a whole new perspective on life and continues to grow from his experiences every day. We are forever grateful for the endless amount of support that was given to our family during this difficult time. Together we can create a future where no matter the age, no matter the cancer, no one will feel alone.
